How to choose your wedding colours.
Wherever you’re getting married, your wedding colours will set the mood and style of your day. The wedding colour palette you decide on will guide the visual components of your day and ensure everything looks cohesive. So how to choose your wedding colours? With all of the possible combinations available it’s not so easy, but I’ve put together a quick guide below to help.
How many colours should you choose?
Your colour palette is one of the things you need to decide early in your wedding planning. That is because it will influence your choice of items such as stationery designs, florals and bridesmaid dresses.
You don’t need many colours in your wedding palette. Choose one or two colours as main hues. Then select one or two secondary colours, one of which should be neutral. You could add a fun colour shade for a surprise pop of colour that you can use sparingly throughout your event. Also, a metallic colour such as gold or silver works well as an accent colour.
Where can you get inspiration for choosing your wedding colours?
Your venue and its setting is the perfect inspiration for choosing a colour palette. Look at the interior and choose colours that match or complement the decor already there . Or take inspiration from the outside. For example, leafy greens and pastels for a garden wedding or cool blues for a seaside wedding.
If your venue doesn’t provide much inspiration think about the season you’re getting married. For example, pastel colour palettes work well for Spring and bright garden flowers for Summer. In autumn, choose gold and jewel tones for a warm palette, and deep greens and snowy whites for a Winter wedding.
How to choose your wedding colours to create the mood and style of your day
The palette you choose can influence how you and your guests feel. Think about what you want your wedding style to be and what you want your guests to experience. Also reflect on who you are as a couple so you can express your personal style. Do you want your wedding to be romantic, glamorous, fun, classic, or minimal? Black, white, gold, and neutral shades exude timeless tradition. For a fun, whimsical mood use a combination of bright pastels.
Choose wedding colours you love
The venue, season, mood and style of your wedding are important elements to consider. However, it’s more important to stay true to your unique personal style as a couple and immerse yourself in colours you love. Your wedding colours can be then be incorporated into a variety of different elements such as wedding stationery, invitations, floral arrangements and bridesmaid dresses.
Above all, the best wedding colours are the ones that will bring you the most joy on your wedding day and that you will look back on in years to come and still love.
