A Guide to On The Day Wedding Stationery

On The Day Wedding Stationery

Everyone has been invited to your wedding so now it’s time to start thinking about wedding day stationery! So what exactly is On the Day Wedding Stationery?

It’s all of the stationery that you’ll be using on your wedding day. It includes ceremony programs, menus, place cards, table numbers, signs, bar menus, and more.  It’s a great idea to design your stationery to create a cohesive, consistent look from start to finish. Let’s chat about what you may need.

CEREMONY PROGRAMS

Programs are important if you’re having a church ceremony. They provide information to your guests about the order of ceremony and can include hymns and wedding readings.

I recommend one program per couple and it’s always nice to have a few extras for keepsakes. Be sure to give one to your photographer for photos!

The typical size of ceremony programs is a 5 x 7″ card or a booklet style of 4 x 6”.

DINNER MENUS

There are so many options for menus to make them personal and unique. Menus add colour and dimension to the table setting, and guests love to know what they’ll be eating.

I recommend one menu card per adult guest. The typical size is 3.75 x 9.25″, 5 x 7″, or a custom size or shape. You can also choose a table menu which can be mounted in a stand. You can have 2-3 table menus per table depending on the number of guests.

ESCORT CARDS AND PLACE CARDS

Escort cards tell guests which table they’re sitting at and include the guest’s name and table number. Often, a seating chart is used instead of escort cards.

Place cards tell guests which seat they’re sitting at at the table. Place cards are only necessary if you’re having assigned table seating. You can choose a flat or tented card, or scrolls, and in a variety of paper colours and calligraphy styles. Add ribbons, wax seals, or tassels and let your imagination run wild!

You’ll need one place card per guest . The typical size of flat or folded cards is 2 x 3.5″ or a custom size.

WEDDING SIGNAGE

Depending on your wedding, you will require different signage. Signage can tie your invitation stationery and on the day stationery together in a cohesive statement.

Some of the signage for your wedding can include:

  • A Welcome Sign
  • A Seating Chart Sign
  • Signature Drink Sign
  • Guestbook Sign
  • Bar Menu Sign

Typically, one of each is sufficient but you may want to consider two  bar menu signs. A fun idea is to have a signature drinks menu too.

Large signs are usually 600 x 800mm and bar signs are usually A4 and you can display them in a stand.

TABLE NUMBERS

Table numbers are necessary at your wedding reception as they let guests know at which table they are seated. You can be really creative on how you display or print table numbers. You can put them in a frame or a small stand. One per table is needed.

WHEN SHOULD YOU ORDER ON THE DAY STATIONERY?

I recommend starting the process about four to six months before the wedding. This allows time to decide on the design of your stationery. You also need to leave plenty of time for printing. You can finalise the numbers once you receive your RSVPs back. I recommend getting these pieces finalised three weeks prior to your wedding date, and definitely no less than two weeks before.  Sometimes there are last minute changes with guests not being able to attend. You can often get place cards done last minute to accommodate that.
