You may have two or three paper pieces in your wedding suite such as the invitation, a map, and a details card. So it’s a good idea to keep your wedding suite together tidily. That way your stationery won’t arrive in the post all messy. The solution needs to be practical but it is also a way of adding a beautiful detail, a pop of colour, or a touch of elegance. They are sometimes called ‘invitation closures’. There are lots of options for keeping all your stationery together in the prettiest way.
So let’s have a look at some of the most popular ways of tying your stationery together.
BELLY BANDS
These are a strip of paper that wraps around the middle of your suite (the belly) and fasten securely at the back. You can choose a subtle vellum band, a patterned band to add a pop of colour, or a bold, dramatic band such as black. This is also a great place to put a wax seal as an extra statement. These are a simple, cost effective way to keep everything tidy.
SILK RIBBONS
A beautiful silk ribbon adds a beautiful and luxurious feel to your invitation suite. The colour and feel of silk ribbons are rich and soft. They too can be used on their own or in conjunction with a vellum wrap, wax seal, or both. Silk ribbons are usually hand dyed and hand torn so they are at the higher end price wise. Some couples choose to use silk ribbon for their keepsake invitation and close family members only and another option for the rest of the invitations. A satin or velvet ribbon can look just as beautiful too.
Remember when using ribbon not to tie the bow too big so that your wedding suite will still go through the standard postage slot.
TWINE
Using twine is an elegant minimal way to keep your wedding suite together. Twine usually comes in natural, white or black so you can match it to the style of your invitations. It can be used by itself or with a vellum wrap, wax seal, or both. This option is more economical than silk ribbons so you may like to do a combination of both options.
VELLUM WRAPS
A vellum wrap is made from a translucent paper. They are lovely because they give just a little peak through to your invitation. These wrap around your invitation suite and can be secured with a ribbon, a wax seal, or both! Another minimal look is to secure the wrap with twine. You can have a plain vellum wrap or choose a pattern to compliment your suite. It’s a nice idea to match your envelope liner to the vellum wrap too.
VELLUM POCKETS
A vellum pocket is an elegant statement. These are special little pockets to put all your stationery pieces in to keep them all together. They are light in weight for posting and also provide a little peek of your suite. You don’t need to secure these closed but you can add a ribbon for that extra touch if you’d like.
